The Art of the Street

The brand new visual arts program brings together the revolutionary techniques of contemporary pop-art with the classic techniques of the fine arts. Youth will use both classic and contemporary media—from pencil to spray paint—to address issues of identity, place, race, gender, style, politics, and other sources of meaning in their own lives.

Beat Making

 This course is designed to introduce teenagers to the essential aspects of beat making and music production.  The class examines the history of music production, specifically exploring how hip hop music has relied on samplers and other emerging forms of technology.  Students will learn basic musical concepts as they relate to music production and will create their own beats using various computer programs.

Dance (Hip Hop & Latin)

Our dance program supports development of communication, leadership, physical coordination, movement, and social confidence.  Participants take trips to dance studios, performances, and related higher education settings to complement their in class learning.

Hip Hop the Art of Rhyme/ Poetry 

Through the vehicle of performance, Hip-Hop: The Art of Rhyme and Poetry participants are introduced to the social and political history of hip-hop and explore its impact on contemporary culture. The class creates a safe space to practice performance techniques and build self-confidence and self-esteem.

classes taught by expert instructors with cutting edge DJ equipment. Advanced students host events throughout the Bronx and receive a stipend at the end of the semester. Class taught by world traveled poet and DJ artist.
